With IRMS support for Internationalization (I18N), using internal "hooks," the JTI system was readily translated, supporting different character sets, localization mechanisms for different currencies and date formats, and culture-sensitive icons. This includes both internationalization for the Russian language and also localization for the St. Petersburg dialect.
Integrated Warehousing Solutions, a leading provider of Supply Chain execution solutions, has been helping JT International maximize value in their fulfillment operations with multi-site implementation of the IRMS Warehouse Management System at their facilities serving primarily the Commonwealth of Independent States (i.e., the former Soviet Union) and adjoining Eastern European markets. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, JT International manufactures tobacco products locally in some 20 international plants, markets approximately 90 brands, including American-made cigarettes, and records sales in more than 120 countries.
Integrated Warehousing Solutions, in cooperation with alliance partners, Softcell Corporation (Antwerp, Belgium) and Lityan Systems (Singapore) has implemented the IRMS Warehouse Management System, including Language Manager, at four JTI warehouse and distribution facilities in Russia. Softcell specializes in "linking people and processes" with ERP solutions implementation and Lityan Systems, with offices in Singapore and Moscow, is a systems integrator focused on telecommunications, including radio frequency (RF) and wireless technology.
Initial implementation of IRMS for JTI included integration/interfacing with J.D. Edwards ERP/MRP solution and Softcell's EFAS Financials ERPII product. In this environment, IRMS was employed for inbound and outbound warehouse processes and inventory management, from raw materials receipt to finished goods processing, storage, quarantine, allocation and distribution. Subsequently, in support of the company's adoption of a new Host system, IRMS was integrated to the SAP R/3 ERP. The resulting IRMS - SAP international logistics solution has maximized order throughput, and increased productivity and inventory accuracy for JTI's Eastern European supply chain.
Beyond meeting customer-specified parameters for throughput and inventory accuracy, language translation and internationalization were also critical to successful system integration for JTI. Owing to the partnership's success, future plans for JTI and IRMS call for expansion into additional sites and languages elsewhere in Russia and Eastern Europe.
