Advanced Software System Helps Leading Mail And E-Commerce Fulfillment Firm Achieve Goal Of "Seamless" Processing

With the IRMS Warehoue Management System, RMX Logistics has achieved the objective of truly seamless transaction processing. This has had a major impact on the company's ability to offer comprehensive supply chain management including reverse logistics and control to high-volume shipping customers and their end users, according to John True, the firm's National Director of Logistics. RMX, based in Reno, NV, is a leading fulfillment, processing, warehousing and expediting firm. It recently upgraded its operations with IRMS, a sophisticated warehouse management system that True credits for an overall improvement of productivity and order accuracy. IRMS, provided by Integrated Warehousing Solutions enables RMX to serve its growing nationwide base of e-commerce customers with a broad array of seamless expediting services.

Dedicated to providing across-the-board logistical solutions to high-volume shippers in everything from warehousing and fulfillment to distribution, RMX is also employing the IRMS system to tackle the issue of merchandise returns through a program called Return-Ease!. Reverse logistics pose a very real and costly problem for direct marketers and e-commerce retailers alike. It can make the difference whether a customer comes back.

Through Return-Ease!, RMX is able to process return merchandise locally, saving users potential Zone 8 return charges on UPS and private carrier shipments. Once processed, merchandise is disposed per client instructions. RMX scans packages upon arrival, providing clients with immediate notification of returned merchandise. This localized processing results in a dramatic savings to clients by reducing shipping charges; eliminating costly duplication of reshipment orders; and promoting timely crediting of customer accounts. According to True, IRMS is the central component of a data consolidation system that serves a nationwide network of eight strategically located processing centers. "In addition to providing systematic control of an inventory process that monitors customer assets at all RMX locations, IRMS gives us a definable competitive edge, and has clearly been a primary reason for our ongoing growth," he said. Elaborating on the benefits of the system, which becomes fully operational in the spring of 2000, True stresses the need to be "dead on" with inventory control and reporting in a real-time scenario, adding that this is achieved via Web integration.

"IRMS meets our requirements for control and accuracy. It also offers a more flexible, and therefore more cost-effective, solution in terms of integrating with the systems already in place with our customers," he explained. Unlike other systems that were evaluated, True claims IRMS is much more compatible with the needs of a third-party service provider. "In other words," says True, "IRMS offers the scalability to meet the very specific needs of multiple clients-each with their own systems-being served within a single physical warehouse environment."

RMX began operations in 1994 as a regional parcel delivery company. Today the company is recognized as a national mail, parcel and distribution powerhouse that provides a broad scope of mail and parcel processing, fulfillment and distribution services. RMX's core services focus on fulfillment, processing and expedited delivery of "flat" mail and parcels for both direct-to-consumer and direct-to-retail clients. In terms of flat mail, RMX has been awarded a National Partnership Agreement by the United States Postal Service and serves a diverse group of medium-to-large companies, health care providers, and federal, state and local government agencies. This includes processing and dispatching mail on a daily basis to USPS Destination Delivery Units and Sectional Center facilities.
