Progress Partner Integrated Warehousing Solutions Captures Supply Chain Innovator Award |
 |
Bedford, MA -- October 8, 2002 -- The Progress Company, a business unit of Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS - News) and a leading supplier of technology for building business applications, today announced that the Progress-based IRMS Warehouse Management System from Integrated Warehousing Solutions (IWS) has won a Supply Chain Innovator Award from Supply Chain Systems Magazine.
The Progress-based system was chosen from among 28 nominations, which were reviewed by Kevin O'Marah, vice president and research fellow of AMR Research and then voted on by Supply Chain Systems Magazine editors. The IRMS application won for the ROI benefits it delivered to Dart Warehouse, a 712,000 square foot fulfillment center that supports approximately 25 customers and millions of dollars worth of merchandise. Each Dart customer has their own unique inventory, order processing, integration and fulfillment requirements that IRMS is able to easily accommodate.
"The editors were impressed by the productivity gains, improved accuracy, and shrink reduction benefits that IWS' logistics application, IRMS, delivered to Dart," said David L. Andrews, publisher for Supply Chain Systems Magazine. "By implementing the new warehouse management system, Dart was able to quickly and efficiently fulfill orders for its customers, including a major U.S. retailer."
Built on Progress OpenEdge technology, the IRMS Warehouse Management System enables customers to improve the performance of their businesses with an integrated supply chain application (see press release). Dart achieved a 50 percent productivity gain and saved over a million dollars with IRMS by reducing the number of hours and employees it took to fulfill orders. Today, 157 employees handle what it previously took 400 employees working 24/7 to accomplish. Additionally, Dart was able to reduce its IT staff from 15 highly trained developers to two fairly non-technical people and drop its shrink rate from 5 percent to half a percentage point.
The Supply Chain Innovators 2002 showcase evaluated companies that successfully implemented supply chain management software and hardware, including automated data collection (ADC), advanced planning and scheduling, enterprise resource planning, transportation management, warehouse management, and the Web. Each nomination required customer interviews to verify the business benefits achieved. As a winner of the Supply Chain Innovator Awards, IWS and Dart are profiled in the October issue of Supply Chain Systems Magazine.
"The industry specific expertise of our ISVs, coupled with Progress' best-of-breed technology, makes for a winning combination and enables us to deliver the best services and products in the industry," said Dave Ireland, president
of the Progress Company. "The IRMS application from IWS optimizes Progress technology and offers a system with real business benefits for its customers."
