Downers Grove, IL -- April 22, 2005 -- Integrated Warehousing Solutions, LLC, a leading provider of Supply Chain Execution solutions, announced today that Sentara Healthcare, a not-for-profit health care provider with more than 70 sites in the eastern United States, has selected the IRMS Warehouse Management System for implementation in their Norfolk, Virginia Service Center.
Sentara Healthcare provides medical services for about two million residents of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Their network includes six hospitals, nine nursing and assisted-living centers, about 40 primary care offices, an integrated outpatient health care campus, fitness centers, and other related facilities. They also provide HMO coverage to more than 250,000 with the Sentara Optima Health Plan.
Unlike most such providers, Sentara Healthcare manages their own distribution center. The 60,000 square foot facility houses 3,600 SKUs comprising a wide variety of non-pharmaceutical supplies, including most anything of use in health care environments, everything from surgical gowns and latex gloves to band aids and bed pans.
Using a staged implementation approach, initial IRMS installation will cover Sentara's picking operations, including integration with their existing RF network. The second stage will cover implementation of the organization's inbound, outbound, inventory control and reporting functions, and include integration with Sentara's Host system for purchasing and financials.
With IRMS to help manage their Service Center, Sentara Healthcare expects to eliminate bottlenecks in receiving by automating their paper-based receiving process and incorporating the use of ASNs, and optimize their putaway and picking operations with directed putaway and directed pick as well as the addition of real-time information in the warehouse.
