In order to maximize productivity in the warehouse, IRMS employs such features as serpentine picking, Velocity Slotting, and task interleaving. With task interleaving, dissimilar tasks, for instance picking and replenishment, may be performed in a single trip, reducing unnecessary and unproductive travel time in the warehouse.

Using our zone-dependent system, IRMS might be used to direct operations to perform a picking task, followed by Cycle Counting and Replenishment, all in the same area of the warehouse. In this way, deadheading is reduced, not only increasing worker productivity but also potentially increasing the life of warehouse handling equipment (with less wear and tear on trucks and forklifts) and reducing energy consumption with savings on fuel costs.
