Beginning in 1999, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were charged with the establishment of the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile (NPS). Kept on ready reserve, the NPS would provide the U.S. civilian population with rapid access to large quantities of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in the event of a bio-terrorism incident or large-scale natural disaster.
Today, the NPS Program (now called the Strategic National Stockpile or SNS) is working with governmental and non-governmental partners to upgrade the nation's public health capacity to respond to a national emergency. According to the CDC: Critical to the success of this initiative is ensuring capacity is developed at federal, state, and local levels to receive, stage, and dispense SNS assets.
Bringing our extensive warehouse management, distribution, logistics and information technology expertise to the table, we developed a custom version of our IRMS WMS software to meet the call from the CDC. IRMS Emergency Preparedness Solutions are but one piece of a dynamic response designed to be simple and streamlined; to remove confusion; to assist and to not overwhelm the end user; and - we hope - to see very limited emergency usage.
